 7,900 aviation jobs lost in India due to pandemic, ground handling jobs decline by 13,300


NEW DELHI: 79002 employs in India's aviation sector have lost jobs due to the pandemic in the last one year, VK Singh, minister of state for civil aviation, informed the parliament on Friday.

Total number of employees of domestic carriers has declined from around 78,800 as on 31Mar 2020 to around 66,900 as on 31 Mar 2021, a decline of over 7900 employees.

Ground handling staff:

The total number of employees in ground handling has declined by 13,300 in the same period. The labor force is down from around 38,330 starting at 31 Mar 2020 to around 25,040 starting on 31 Mar 2021.

Cargo:

Freight, in any case, has seen an expansion. The absolute number of workers in freight has expanded from around 9,550 as on 31 March 2020 to around 9,930 as on 31 March 2021, an increment of around 380 representatives.

What about salary cuts?

While no compensation cuts have been carried out for Air India workers drawing pay rates not as much as Rs 25,000 every month, pilots have seen a decrease of flying remittances, dependent upon at least 20 hours flying in a month.

For pilots in Air India Express, there has been a 40% decrease in stipends of pilots which incorporate extraordinary compensation, homegrown delay remittance, speedy return recompense, check recompense, teacher remittance, and analyst stipend. Indigo: During the calendar year 2021, payouts ranging from 2.5% to 48% were implemented for employees in managerial levels and above, most of which have already been restored by now. There was no impact on the salary of employees below the managerial level.

Air Asia: Salary cuts were implemented for employees drawing salaries higher than Rs 50,000 per month. The salary cuts have now been removed with effect from October 2021 and regular salaries have been restored.
